The Certified Community Bank Director's Program addresses all areas of bank directorship - from duties and responsibilities to the essentials of bank finance. The Certified Community Bank Director credential (CCBD) is administered by the SW Graduate School of Banking (SWGSB) Foundation. This industry-recognized credentialing is designed to educate, inform, and inspire community bank directors to be strategic thinkers and servant leaders.

The Certified Community Bank Director's Program offers the following value proposition:

Subject matter and instruction will be relevant and timely with an emphasis on the most important aspects of fulfilling a bank director’s fiduciary responsibilities.

The CCBD program fee includes full breakfasts, lunch, and coffee breaks. Bank directors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and hotel expenses. For hotel reservations at The Lumen, please call the hotel at 214-219-2400 and ask for the group rate.

Requirements for Certification

The Certified Community Bank Director's designation (CCBD®) is administered by the SW Graduate School of Banking (SWGSB) Foundation. This certification covers not only the regulatory and fiduciary responsibilities of bank directors, but also board structures and processes. In addition, the program focuses on what makes boards and directors effective, including addressing what is expected of them by regulators, examiners and shareholders. Upon completion of the requirements outlined here, participants will be awarded a certificate, with license to use the CCBD credential.

To fulfill the requirements for the Certified Community Bank Director's (CCBD) designation, an individual must complete ALL of the following:

  • Attend the three-day Certified Community Bank Director's Program presented by SWGSB on the SMU campus.
  • Attend an Assembly for Bank Directors (ABD) program in the fall or winter session.

A formal request must be made by the individual for the CCBD designation after completing the requirements outlined above. This includes verifying attendance at the CCBD program and an Assembly.

Requirements for Recertification

To maintain the CCBD designation, an individual must attend an Assembly for Bank Directors program within three years.

Additional Certification Benefits

Once certified, the bank director will qualify to attend continuing education courses delivered every year at the SW Graduate School of Banking at SMU, for an additional cost. These elective classes will be offered every year during the first week of the SW Graduate School of Banking.
