The SW Graduate School of Banking Foundation is the first name in banking education, bank management training and bank director training programs. Thousands of financial services professionals have attended its banking management programs since its founding in 1957. Programs for Bank Directors and Senior Officers

From new bank regulations to bank D&O insurance provisions, the banking industry's latest challenges have made bank director education programs essential. Our bank director programs keep bank boards and their senior officers attuned to the financial marketplace, including outstanding bank director resources such as the Federal Reserve System's "Bank Directors Desktop" (www.bankdirectorsdesktop.org) and "Resources for Bank Officers & Directors" at the FDIC (http://www.fdic.gov/regulations/resources/).

Strategic planning, risk management, corporate governance, enhancing shareholder value, and many other important topics are covered by the SW Graduate School of Banking Foundation's bank director programs. Led by top banking experts, the following bank programs offer an exceptional learning experience for senior officers as well as inside and outside bank directors:

History of the Foundation

The present SWGSB Foundation evolved from an organization established in 1960, to perpetuate the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking (SWGSB), which was founded in 1957, by a group of Dallas banking leaders and top Southern Methodist University (SMU) officials. SWGSB was headed by Professor Richard B. Johnson for its first 23 years.

He, together with some of the industry's foremost executives and SMU's leadership, guided the program and established a board of trustees to formally oversee its governance. An excellent innovator and administrator, Dr. Johnson added other programs as well as publications to meet the educational needs of a dynamic financial marketplace.

In 1968, he oversaw the design and implementation of the Assemblies for Bank Directors. This program was devoted to the development of bank directors' understanding of their responsibilities and opportunities as board members. It gained national recognition and, in subsequent years, was widely emulated.

Under its present leadership, the Foundation continues to grow its product lines and oversees the SWGSB, the ABA Commercial Lending Schools, the Assemblies for Bank Directors, the Workshops for Bank Directors, and several key financial services industry partnerships.
